It took about 10 hours to move out of the "old" house and into the new house and separate studio - and that was with just about everything already packed up and ready to go, and a fair amount of stuff (boxes of books and toys for the house, and boxes of CDs for the studio) already moved. By the time everything was moved into the studio - which is almost 800 square feet - I wondered how in the world it had ever all fitted into the house - where my studio space consisted of 200 square feet + the under-stairs storage closet + the master bedroom closet + the floor space for my Innova long arm machine to sit on and that takes up a space about 10ft x 6 ft.
The guys who moved me in (Tim and Kelly from Able Movers here in Phoenix) did a splendid job of putting the heavy furniture in place according to my initial floor plan. Remember the pony wall that used to create the "reception" area? What a difference it made to have that taken down. The footprint was around for a couple of weeks before the floor was stained to blend in.
The Innova long arm machine was taken apart in order to move it. It turned out to be much simpler than I thought it would be. After the sew head was taken off the frame, the sides came off the frame and the rollers were removed, leaving the table part of the frame. Can you spot it on the left hand side of the photo above?
There ended up being a big pile of boxes in the corner of my "office" space. It seemed like a good place to put them so that they would be out of the way until they got unpacked. Most of them were filled with CDs - and then there was my fabric stash (in the plastic tubs).
These are my storage cabinets where all my CDs live - before they go out into the world! It was an interesting experience getting them all lined up as I discovered that not only is the floor not level, there doesn't seem to be a single 90 degree angle in the building either!
It took me over a month to get everything mostly organized and put away - and there are still a couple of piles of things that are waiting to be dealt with. Tomorrow I'll show you some photos of the "moved in" look.
Happy quilting!
